DESCRIPTION

Citius®  is an injectable 5% ceftiofur hydrochloride RTU preparation with unique pharmacodynamics that concentrates the active ingredient in the injection site.

Citius® is characterized by better homogeneity, lesser viscosity, high bioavailability, broad-spectrum bactericidal activity with low MICs against pathogens, a fast bacterial reaction time of less than 1 hour, flexibility in the route of administration (intramuscular and subcutaneous) and easy syringeability.

 

WHAT IS CITIUS?

Citius® is an injectable suspension containing Ceftiofur. Ceftiofur is an antibiotic of the Cephalosporin group, with a broad antibacterial spectrum including Gram (-) and Gram (+) bacteria, including Beta lactamase - producing bacteria.

Citius® 5% contains micromolecular Ceftiofur and excipients that allow this antibiotic to disperse very quickly in the body. Serum and tissue concentrations reach therapeutic concentrations in less than 15 minutes, allowing this antibiotic  to take effect very quickly after injection.

INDICATIONS

  • Special treatment of diseases caused by bacteria sensitive to Ceftiofur
  • Pigs: Treatment of respiratory infections caused by Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae, Pasteurella multocida, Haemophilus spp., Salmonella cholerasuis, E. coli, and Strepptococcus suis.
  • Cows: Treatment of respiratory infections caused by Pasteurella Multocida, Pasteurella haemolytica and Haemphilus somnus.

SUM-UP 

In cattle for the treatment of respiratory infections caused by: Manheimmia haemolytica, Pasteurella multocida, Histophlus somni. In Pigs, for the treatment of respiratory infections associated with: Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae, Pasteurella multocida, Salmonella cholerasuis, Streptooococcus suis type 2.

Bactericidal effect that acts by inhibiting cell wall synthesis. Indicated for the treatment of pododermatits, metritis , respiratory diseases, disorders caused by Streptococcus suis type 2, as an auxiliary in the treatment of neonatal diarrheal syndrome.

DOSAGE AND INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE

  • Pigs: intramuscular injection, 1ml-3ml/ 50kg body weight/ day, for 3 days (equivalent to 1mg - 3mg ceftiofur /kg body weight /day)
  • Cows: intramuscular or subcutaneous injection, 1ml - 2ml /50kg body weight, for 3-5 days (equivalent to 1mg-2mg ceftiofur kg/body weight/day).

a) Dose

  • Apply intramuscularly or subcutaneusly.
  • Cattle: 1 -2ml per 50 kg of weight (1-2mg/kg of weight)
  • Pigs: 3 to 5 ml per 50 kg of weight (3-5mg/kg of weight)
  • Repeat every 24 hours for 3 days or at the discretion of the veterinarian. Do not apply more than 10ml per application site.

b) Route of Administration

  • Cattle: Intramuscular or subcutaneous
  • Pigs: Intramuscular

 

WITHDRAWAL TIME

  • Treated cattle should not be slaughtered for human consumption until 3 days after the end of treatment.
  • Treated pigs should not be slaughtered for human consumption until 4 days treatment ends.

 

PRECAUTIONS

  • The use of higher doses than appropriate or administration by different routes may generate harmful residues in edible tissues and/or milk.
  • Keep out of reach of children
  • Store in a cool, dry place protected from direct sunlight

 

WARNINGS

The use of the product can generate positive results for Ceftiofur residues when tests are used whose sensitivity allows detecting in the milk of treated animals, levels lower than those established by the Ministry of Health and Social Protection through resolution number 1382 of 2013 (100 μg/L or ppm).
