Swine

To meet the food needs of a growing human population, swine farming has developed in the Philippines over the past decades. Today, for all professionals in the sector, the challenge is the same: how to preserve  animal health and farm productivity while reducing the use of treatments. At Virbac Philippines, we provide veterinarians and pig farmers with solutions that focus on prevention and more sustainable practices.

ANSWERING THE CURRENT CHALLENGES OF SWINE FARMING

  • Solutions to limit the impact of the main swine diseases.
  • A global approach that emphasizes prevention.
  • Encouraging good husbandry practices to better protect sows and piglets from disease.

REDUCE THE IMPACT OF MAJOR DISEASES IN SWINE POPULATION

The world's swine population is nearly 800 million, distributed in multiple regions. All over the world, pig populations are exposed to the same major diseases, such as porcine circovirus type 2 (PCV2), swine fever, and respiratory diseases, which are responsible for high mortality rates, stunted growth in herds and significant economic losses for farmers. At Virbac Philippines, we provide solutions to limit the impact of these diseases, regardless of the type of farm, with constant concern of maintaining both the health of the animals and the performance of the farm.

GIVING PRIORITY TO PREVENTION, STRENGTHENING NATURAL DEFENSES

Allowing a growing population to have access to quality food while preserving animal health and well-being implies a necessary adaptation of breeding techniques, and to emphasize prevention. Vaccination is one of the pillars of our approach to prevent infectious diseases and promote sanitary balance in pig farms, by reducing the number of affected animals and mortality. Similarly, the provision of mineral supplements to support the metabolic and immune functions of the animal at key moments in its life, such as gestation, reduces the impact of diseases and limits the need for curative treatments.
